Regional business development has been a long-time interest. The links between business growth and education/training are my main focus. The next year is one of potential significant change for the Chamber and I am concerned that we retain a strong Manawatu focus. Encouraging our community to ‘grow their own employees’ and develop a strong local skills base are two areas I am interested to pursue in 2011. Advocacy for local business remains an important priority. I’d like to see Manawatu business and its successes/innovations promoted more nationally.
