Palmerston North will be trialling no time limits in metered parking spaces. That means you’ll be able to park all day in the same place provided you feed your meter. Palmerston North City Council had been trialling three hour limits in metered spaces but at a meeting today decided to remove limits altogether for 12 months.

MEDIA RELEASE First quarterly economic growth slows but outlook stronger The latest Manawatū Quarterly Economic report suggests that economic growth in the Manawatū region slowed in the first quarter of this year but the outlook for growth is looking much stronger. Infometrics GDP estimates suggest economic growth in the region was 0.9% in the year to March 2016, while GDP is estimated to have increased by 2.3% nationwide.

Marketview electronic card retail spending:  Manawatu region electronic card retail spending (debit and credit card) increased by 3.2% in April 2016 while New Zealand retail spending increased by 4.6%.  Palmerston North retail spending increased by 3.2% from April 2015 and Manawatu District increased by 2.7%.

There is a 14 month delay in the publication of employment data for the Manawatu region, but useful insights on the state of the labour market in the region are provided by MSD benefits and overseas migration data, which are published three weeks after the end of the latest quarter.
