Christmas BA5 at Te Manawa
December 5 @ 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm| Free
Join us for the last BA5 for 2018
This year we are being hosted by Te Manawa in the Santa Cave! This is a hugely important year for the Santa Cave as it celebrates its Centenary. The Santa Cave has been lovingly looked after by the City and thousands of people each year enjoy coming through and sharing the experience with their families.
In 1918 the Santa Cave was founded in the Collinson and Cunninghame Store on Broadway as a gift to the people at the end of the First World War. To generate a spirit of optimism C&C decided to go ahead and open Santa’s Cave on Christmas Eve 1918. The Wilkins Room which leads into the Santa Cave has transformed itself back to 1918 and you step back in time to the C&C store of the day! Te Manawa have done an amazing job of looking after the Cave and ensuring our community retain this wonderful experience for another 100 years.
A happy co-incidence for us at the Chamber is that Leo H Collinson (one of the founders) was also the president of the Chamber in 1918, we feel a strong link to the family; and Leo’s great-grandaughter will be with us for the BA5. The family have contributed $20,000 for the restoration of the carousel at 102 being the oldest of the items in the Cave!
You will be greeted by Young Chamber, we have a few surprises and a number of spot-prizes courtesy of See-Me-Media.
AND we have a special request…………..
In the spirit of Christmas and because we are in Santa’s Cave we would appreciate your assistance to help fill Santa’s empty sack!
We invite you to support our chosen charity Arohanui Hospice with an item from their very special ‘WishList’.
All donations will be appreciated – Thank you for your support.
Don’t forget to wear something “Christmassy”
We look forward to seeing you as we celebrate the end of a very busy and successful year!
