Regional Economic Update: A future-proofing discussion: preparing for what’s ahead
Big things are coming our way. With multi-billion-dollar infrastructure projects on the horizon, like the Regional Freight Ring Road and the Gorge Replacement, there’s significant work to do to prepare for the future, together.
Our Regional economy is currently strong, continued high levels of central/local government and private investment are factors that will continue to deliver strong growth to the region to 2030. However, there is a short-term urgent need for labour for the major construction projects coming up in the region over the next ten years as well as the growing housing shortage.
The question is how we address this, and the most important consideration is developing our people and attracting skilled talent to deliver on these projects and more. Join us to hear from a panel of experts who are involved in programmes designed to develop the skills and talent that are needed in the region, and discuss how we might meet the housing needs
Hear from our regional economic advisors from PNCC and MDC and then our panel from a cross section of agencies, businesses and education as to how we are going to manage this collectively; how we are going to gear up and the importance of the National Driver Training Centre at Manfeild. Q&A Session
Panellists and Speakers:
Stacey Bell, Economic Development Adviser, Manawatu District Council
Peter Crawford, Economic Policy Advisor, Palmerston North City Council
Craig Nash – Accelerate 25
Margaret Kouvelis, Talent Central
Sue Foley, representing the Steering Group for the Manfeild National Driver Training Centre (Sue is also a member of the CEDA board of directors)
Lindsay Tamblyn (HoS Construction & Engineering) – UCOL
