Sacha Haskell from PNCC
THE LINE OF FIRE
FOOTBALL, ARMED FORCES & FESTIVALS – one woman’s inspiring journey and how team ethos can affect positive outcomes!
Sacha Haskell is the General Manager of Marketing and Communications at Palmerston North City Council, having joined local government for the first time, and created a brand new unit of Marketing and Communications within Council in April 2018.
Since then her team have won the 2019 Local Government New Zealand Excellence, Award for Social Wellbeing with the ‘Festival of Cultures’ event, and this year won the Supreme Award from the Public Relations Institute of New Zealand for He Ara Kotahi: the pathway that got a city to fall back in love with its river.
The He Ara Kotahi campaign also won Gold in the Limited Budget or Not-For-Profit awar category this year.
Her unit is responsible for Events, Venues, Marketing and Communications for Palmerston North City. Sacha will speak about these projects, and how she took a new unit within a regional New Zealand council, and within two years transformed it into a nationally recognised award-winning team.
Sacha Haskell was also one of the first women ever to be selected as a member of the special armed forces unit of the New Zealand Police – The Armed Offenders Squad (AOS) from 1995-1999 and held the rank of Detective featuring in the television series “The Line of Fire”. There have been several books profiling her sports and policing career.
Sacha was Captain of the New Zealand Women’s Soccer Team and a representative tennis and cricket player when she was young and fit.
